I loved the poetry of Kathryn Anna Marshall so much, I asked if I could write something for her in calligraphy. This beautiful piece is called "My death will grieve foxes".

Kathryn is a published poet, and also writes bespoke poems for weddings, which I shared on English Wedding (my other blog) a few weeks ago.
Sometimes calligraphy poem commissions take time to get just right. In this case, I experimented with papers, writing the entire piece twice. My first version was on a paler paper, a little more 'hare' coloured - but it didn't do the calligraphy justice and I simply couldn't see it as wall art: the calligraphy was too subtle.

This final version allows the calligraphy its moment: the swirls and flourishes contrast with the darker (cappuccino coloured!) high quality Keaykolour paper, made from FSC® certified premium pulps.
I used a combination of two nibs: a brand new Nikko G for the title and body of the poem, with the line "on being a hare in England" and Kathryn's name in a finer style written with a Leonardt EF Principal nib. The ink is Dr Ph Martin's Bleedproof White, all from Scribblers calligraphy supplies.

As the summer season approaches, I'm hoping I can write lots of lovely wedding poems and readings as well as the usual place name cards, on-the-day stationery and wedding calligraphy!
You can see more examples of my calligraphy poems on my website. My starting price is £75 for a poem of up to 75 words, without a frame.
